Newly-hatched Honu weigh only one ounce.

Hawaiian green sea turtles are the only sea turtles that haul out of the water to bask.

Honu, Hawaiian green sea turtles, are often spotted in the shallow waters near the shores of the Hawaiian islands.  They swim more than 850 miles to the beach where they were born in the Northwest Hawaiian islands to mate and breed. An adult Honu may weigh as much as 400 pounds. Now protected by law, they were once hunted for food.
